THE SEMITONES

Semitones Children’s and Youth Choir

The Semitones Children’s & Youth Choir, for children and youth aged 8 to 16, aims to have fun while learning music and movement basics and is inclusive of all ability levels. The group also strives to integrate children of all abilities and build leadership, acceptance, confidence, and promote expression.

The choir began in January of 2014 and is based on the model of Kids of Note, directed by Brenda Baker in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Under the direction of Susan Farrell, this group practices in two sections:

1) Our Saturday group meets Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church (11526-76 Ave). This group is for beginner singers or for those needing a bit more time to learn the music.

2) Our Tuesday group meets on Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Anglican Church (10127-145 St). This group is for more experienced singers, and will be paired with singers from Shumayela from the Korora Choir Association.

To determine which group your singer should be in, please contact Susan for further information. The Semitones have volunteer helpers drawn from the Braille Tones, Òran and Shumayela (of the Korora Choir Association).

How to Join

We are always accepting new members to the Semitones Children’s & Youth Choir!
Singers do not need to audition and there is no cost to join.

For my disabled daughter, music is therapy. The weekly exposure to beautiful choral music and the inherent sense of inclusion and community that the Semitones offers, for her, has been magical. The sincere and heartfelt gratitude our family feels for the amazing people who make this group possible is hard to put into words!
