Geoff, Braille Tones Member
Geoff Connor has had a wildly eclectic relationship with music throughout his life. He started with singing and piano lessons when he was younger, which led him to join choir and take up guitar as a hobby when he was in high school. The reason for this according to Geoff: “It’s something I’ve always liked doing.”
After that, he eventually made his way into the Braille Tones choir as it was forming in 1996 and he’s been with them ever since as it’s slowly become a significant part of his routine.
“I find when I go to choir and sing and spend time with the other members of the choir, when I go home, I find I’m just in a positive mood,” he said. “It really makes me feel good knowing that I’m going out on a Saturday and doing this.”
Thinking back over the last 25 years of Braille Tones and the memories that came from it, Geoff is really partial to the 20th anniversary celebration they held in 2016. Him and another member of the choir were tasked with recounting the organization’s history through stories and songs, and it’s one of his favourite memories with the group.
“That really went over well because there were a lot of people there at the church to see it and listen to it and that’s definitely a big one for me,” he explained.
But beyond that, Geoff can’t pinpoint a specific memory. To him, every moment at Braille Tones is just as meaningful and impactful for what it’s done for him.
“Braille Tones really helped me,” he said. “It gives me something to do on a Saturday morning. I think what I enjoy is when we perform, we have our windups in the fall and spring. I just enjoy everything, I guess. All the different things we’ve done over the years.”
